Navigating the Web (URL & IP) The Universal Resource Locator (URL) is a, human-friendly addressing scheme used by Internet connected computers. Through a process called Domain Name Services (DNS), a user enters a website address such as www.bccancer.bc.ca, which in turn is mapped to the sites real Internet Protocol (IP) address by a DNS server (in this case, 204.174.66.178).
